Billy Wilson Nyambalo is the Principal Health Research Officer in the Ministry of Health Research Division. Also Administrator for the National Health Sciences Research Committee (NHSRC), Malawi's Biomedical REC. Holds a MSc in Informatics from the University of Malawi. A 2017 Alumni of the US NIH Bioethics IRB Internship Program and holder of a Certificate in Research Ethics: Conducting Research Responsibly; University of Witwatersrand, RSA. To broaden my public health knowledge, I am about to start pursuing a Master of Science in Public Health Program at Eden University, Zambia before enrolling for a PhD in Bioethics. Key Achievements: One of the focal persons during the development of the National Health Research Agenda II (2023-2030) including its Implementation Strategy; formulate and implement programs aimed at enhancing the ethics capacity of the National Health Sciences Research Committee (NHSRC) members in reviewing research studies; facilitate the establishment of Hospital Research Coordination Committees throughout the country to oversee research activities at the hospital level; initiated the development an electronic review system for the NHSRC, increased the frequency of NHSRC Main and Sub-Committee meetings, creation of two sub-committees under the main committee namely the Expedited Review Sub-Committee to deal with student and low-risk applications and the Inspections (Safety) Sub-Committee to deal with all safety issues from running studies in the country and finally initiated the review process of the National Health Sciences Research Committee (NHSRC) 2007 Guidelines so as to make sure they align with current available evidence established through sound and professional research outcomes.
