Vivien Kokutangilila Barongo, a dedicated scholar and Principal Research Officer earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Medical Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in 1995 and 1998, respectively. In 2015, she completed her Doctorate Degree in Social Sciences at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia.
Throughout her career, Vivien has received notable grants and training, including the Royal Netherlands Government's Grant for Graduate Fieldwork Research and the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship from the Government of Australia. She has also undertaken research training and acquired skills from prestigious institutions in Norway, Denmark, and the United Kingdom.
Since 2000, Vivien has been a part of the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), where she has risen through the ranks from Research Scientist to Senior Research Scientist and, currently, Principal Research Officer. Her responsibilities encompass proposal development, operational, implementation and health systems research, data management, report writing, results dissemination, and consultancy work. Her research interests focus on qualitative studies related to sexual, reproductive, and maternal health, as well as violence and health systems, all aimed at improving public health outcomes.
In addition to her research contributions, Vivien has held leadership positions within NIMR, including serving as the Head of various departments.
