Agnes Pratiwi has always been an enthusiast of international collaborations in research and education, which she started ten years ago. She is an assistant professor at the Department of Medical Education and Bioethics, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, and a PhD candidate at the Department of Ethics, Law, and Humanities, Amsterdam UMC, University of Amsterdam. She is also involved in her institution's UNESCO Chair of Bioethics program and Centre for Bioethics and Medical Humanities.
Before entering the field of ethics in health care, she worked as a dentist in primary health care in a remote area of Borneo, one of Indonesia's many islands. Experiencing healthcare provision and the inequalities related to healthcare access has made her study public health. Furthermore, she believed in the importance of primary health care, which is often the first encounter that determines a patient’s next journey, which made her research on primary health care and health systems from an ethical lens. She believes that strengthening primary health care should be a priority.
