David Nderitu is a Lecturer of Philosophy at Egerton University, Kenya. He holds BA and MPhil in Philosophy, MSc in International Health Research Ethics, and PhD in Philosophy. David is the current Coordinator of UNESCO Chair on Bioethics and Regional Documentation Centre for Eastern Africa based at Egerton University and also a member of the Egerton University Institutional Scientific and Ethics Review Committee. David’s research interest is in African philosophy, African indigenous world views, bioethics and research ethics in the African context. David is a recipient of the 2018 Global Forum on Bioethics in Research (GFBR) to the Institute on Ethics and Policy for Innovation (IEPI) at McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario, Canada where he developed and published a paper together with Prof. Claudia Emerson, the Director of IEPI. The title of the paper is: “The indigenous African cultural value of human tissues and implications for bio-banking”. David is also a recipient of the GFBR 2022 Travel Fellowship to the Ethics Lab, Neuroscience Institute at the University of Cape Town to develop a concept tentatively titled: “Contextualization of the AI concept using the African cosmic inter-relational model for application in health research.” David has been an Early Career Researcher for the Ethics in Mental Health Digital Innovations for Young People in Africa (EMDIYA) Project which is focused on developing a robust framework for responsible and relevant mental health innovations for young people in African countries (See https://neurogene.org/groups/emdiya/).
