Dr. Nagendra Luitel is a global mental health researcher from Nepal. He holds a PhD on the integration of mental health services into the primary and community healthcare system in Nepal from University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Currently, Dr. Luitel is the Research Advisor at Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO) Nepal, a national level non-governmental organization in Nepal, Adjunct Assistant Professor at George Washington University, the USA, and the Wellcome Trust International Training Fellow. Dr. Luitel has been involved in mental health research since 2006, and his research has made significant contributions in transforming the existing mental health care landscape in Nepal from hospital-based, specialist-delivered services to community-based services with a task-sharing approach. Dr. Luitel’s areas of research interest included mental health epidemiology, cultural adaptation and validation of mental health measures to improve the validity of epidemiological studies, and development and evaluation of community based mental services to increase help-seeking for mental health care.
