Ehsan Shamsi Gooshki is a certified Medical Doctor (MD) and Ph.D. in biomedical ethics with 15 years of experience in research ethics, integrity, policymaking, and governance, through successive positions as associate professor, policymaker, secretary of the national research ethics committee, and member of research ethics committees at institutional, national, regional, and international levels. In recent years he noticeably contributed to the work of the WHO Health Ethics and Governance Unit and serves as a member of the WHO Ethics Review Committee and work of UNESCO as a member of the International Bioethics Committee (IBC). While being a pioneer researcher in the field, his extensive leadership, matrix collaboration, and organizational and administrative skills helped him set up innovative systems for bioethics implementation with a direct measurable impact on the health research system. Reviewing hundreds of research protocols for various organizations, having research experience in leading academic institutions in Europe, the US, and Australia, and being a research policymaker in LMICs provided him with a deep understanding of various research environments including high and low-resource settings. Before starting his work at Monash University in Australia in 2023, he established a new system for biomedical research ethics, governance, and integrity in Iran through the development of a national research ethics portal, a national accreditation system for research ethics committees, a disciplinary system for cases of research misconduct, a national indexing system for research ethics approvals, several research ethics guidelines and contributed in drafting the law for prevention and punishment of academic misconduct.
